Association of British and Irish Lusitanists
The Association of British and Irish Lusitanists (ABIL) will be holding its second conference at the University of Bristol from the morning of Friday 11th to late afternoon on Saturday 12th January, 2008.
Location
The conference will be held at the Hawthorns, which is in the middle of the Arts Faculty precinct on Woodland Road, and adjacent to the School of Modern Languages, where some of the panels will be held.
ABIL Membership fees for 2007-8
All participants who are giving a paper at the conference must be members of the Association prior to the conference. New members are always welcome and existing members are invited to renew membership now, for 2007-8. Instructions regarding payment for joining the Association or renewing membership are as follows:
£10 for Associate Members (i.e. leitores, language assistants, graduate teaching assistants, teaching fellows and equivalents, postgraduate students, postdoctoral research fellows and equivalents, and retired ordinary members of the association)
£20 for all Ordinary Members (those holding full-time or part-time academic posts).
If you are a UK member with a sterling bank account, please send the appropriate payment by sterling cheque to Prof. Hilary Owen, Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies, University of Manchester, Oxford Road, Manchester M13 9PL. Cheques should be made payable to “Association of Lusitanists”. If you are a new member to ABIL, please also complete the ABIL membership form for 2007-8 and send it to the above address. Receipts will only be issued on request and if you include a stamped, addressed envelope.
If you are an Overseas member who wishes to pay in a currency other than sterling, you can now pay your membership subscription using PayPal www.paypal.com If you do not already have a PayPal account, you will have to register for one. Sending money via paypal does not entail any charge to you as the sender. Within PayPal, please use the “Send Money” option to send your membership fee of £20 (or £10 for associate members) to the following email address: abil_britire@yahoo.co.uk Please also state your name and institutional affiliation in the email message. If you are a new member to ABIL please also send the ABIL Membership Form for 2007-8 to abil_britire@yahoo.co.uk
NB Paypal DOES entail a small standard charge to ABIL itself for receiving the money, so please do NOT use Paypal, if you are a UK member with a sterling account. This facility has been set up to assist our non-UK members only.
Conference Fees
- There will be a conference fee of £33 per day to cover refreshments in the morning and the afternoon and a light buffet lunch. Please complete the ‘Conference Registration Form’ and send your fee (payable to ‘The University of Bristol’) to Professor David Brookshaw, School of Modern Languages, 17 Woodland Road, Bristol BS8 1TE.
- There will be a conference dinner at a local Portuguese or Brazilian restaurant. We hope all those coming to the conference will attend this, for which a payment of £20 should be added to the conference fee.
Accommodation
Accommodation is the responsibility of individual participants. There are plenty of hotels and guest houses in the vicinity of the University, and early booking is recommended. The University has an agreement with the Clifton Hotel Group, which provides a discount to visitors on academic business at the University.
