Venture into Vet Careers

The University of Bristol recognises that not all students have equal opportunities when it comes to accessing higher education, and this is particularly reflected in the lack of diversity in the veterinary professions. The Venture into Vet Careers programme seeks to give local students from underrepresented groups an insight into the work of veterinary professionals.

Year 11 student sign up

You can now sign up for our Year 11 Webinar to learn more about the work that vets do and shine some light on a few of the myths you may have heard about the career and study.

Venture into Vet is more than a university visit day. It's a series of events, both in-person and virtual, for students in Year 10 and 11. The programme includes vet school visits, webinars and more to de-mystify the university application process, life as a vet student and the varied careers the degree courses can lead to. We focus on debunking myths about vet school admissions and study, as well as offering hands-on experiences at the Bristol Vet School's Langford campus.

Participants will also have the opportunity to sign up to our Vets In Progress mailing list, where we share exclusive content made by our inspirational lecturers, students and colleagues in the veterinary professions.

Year 10 Vet School Visit

Applications for the 2023 Year 10 Langford visit have now closed. Check back on this page for information about future visits! The day is a fantastic opportunity for students who haven't yet had much experience of what a veterinary career might entail to get some hands-on experience with real vets at our beautiful Langford campus. The visit is perfect for anyone who's interested in a veterinary career, or is unsure of what they want to do in the future.

Applications will be by individual sign up.  However, we recognise that teachers know their students best, and we ask that you encourage any students who you feel will gain the most from the opportunity to apply. Due to limited spaces, priority will be given to students from widening participation backgrounds.

These include:-

  • live in an area of low participation in higher education (check here)  which is a score of 1 or 2 for the category 'POLAR4 young participation quintile'
  • are a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic student
  • attend an aspiring state school or college
  • are or have been eligible for free school meals
  • have spent three or more months in local authority care
  • are currently an estranged student
  • are part of the first generation in your family to go to university.
