Become a Green Impact Labs Project Assistant
Are you passionate about sustainability and are doing a scientific degree?
Green Impact Labs is an environmental accreditation scheme that enables lab groups to reduce the negative impact of their science research and help the University reach its sustainability goals. This new sustainability framework for labs is conducted through NUS's Green Impact scheme, which has obtained global recognition by UNESCO.
You can volunteer as a Green Impact Labs Project Assistant (GILPA) to conduct initial lab assessments across the University, help lab users work through the Green Impact Labs workbook, and conduct final audits before the award ceremony which is held in September.
This opportunity allows you to have your own positive influence on helping the University to become more sustainable. It is also a great way for you to gain valuable experience and transferable skills applicable to any CV. You don't have to be studying an environmental or sustainability-related degree, just a scientific one with some experience of laboratories. The most important thing is an interest in making a positive change!
You'll report to the Green Impact Labs Supervisor who will provide you with initial training, and you will have the opportunity to work closely with laboratory users including students, academics and technicians.
We are always looking for volunteers and the amount of time you put in is completely up to you. You'll receive recognition for your commitment with an official Green Impact Labs certificate; the more assessments you complete the higher certification you'll earn!
Green Champion: complete 15+ assessments
Green Leader: complete 5-15 assessments
Green Ambassador: complete 1-4 assessments
We are also gifting an iPad mini to the GILPA who encourages the most lab groups to sign up to Green Impact Labs after the initial assessment.
