English language requirements

If English is not your native language or the language of instruction at your university you will need to meet our English language requirements to be accepted onto one of our Study Abroad programmes. If you have an English language certificate that is not listed below, please contact us at global-opportunities@bristol.ac.uk.

If you are unable to meet the requirements for the Study Abroad programme, you may be eligible to apply for our Study Abroad with English Language (STABEL) programme. This involves completing a 6 or 10 week pre-sessional English language course prior to starting the main programme. Please note, STABEL is only available to students starting in September. 

IELTS and TOEFL required scores
Study Abroad 6.5 overall, minimum 6.0 in all bands 90 overall, minimum 20 in all parts

Study Abroad with English Language (STABEL)  

  •  with 6 week pre-sessional
6.0 overall, minimum 5.5 in all bands 86 overall, minimum 18 in all parts

Study Abroad with English Language (STABEL) 

  • with 10 week pre-sessional
5.5 overall, minimum 5.0 in all bands 72 overall, minimum 17 in all parts

English language support

If you want to improve your confidence with academic English while you study, English language units are also available to take as part of your Study Abroad programme.
