Professor Roger Mac Ginty Masterclass
G4/5 10 Woodland Rd
Professor Roger Mac Ginty (University of Durham) will be giving a Masterclass on 'Making mistakes: The Everyday Peace Indicators project and 'good enough' methodology'.
Date: 18th February 2019
Venue: G4/5 10 Woodland Rd
This participative session will explain the methodology behind the Everyday Peace Indicators project and the ethical and practical challenges that it faced. The project used focus groups and surveys and faced challenges of researcher and respondent safety, working with local NGOs, hostile political environments and decisions over whether to use technology A lot of errors were made along the way and the session will examine the tensions between the demand for scientific robustness on the one hand, and the reality that we do not conduct research in laboratory conditions. Often we place unrealistic demands on PhD researchers and this session is designed to give confidence to researchers that 'good enough' is often the best we can hope for.
