Teaching

Martyn Phillips studied German at University College London, with Norwegian as subsidiary subject. While at UCL he developed a keen interest in phonetics. This led to many years of teaching at the TU Berlin as Akademischer Rat and Lektor, principally for English Phonetics. While in Germany he also worked as a newsreader, news editor and feature writer for the British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS). He returned to the UK in 1992, having more than done his stint as an Ausländer. He has taught at the University of the West of England (UWE), in various schools and colleges in the Bristol area, is an examiner for one of the major UK examining boards (Business English and German), a translator for several German companies - and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (MCIL).
