Facilities

The German Department is located in its own building within the Faculty of Arts precinct on Woodland Road in the central University area .

It contains  tutors’ rooms, purpose-built teaching accommodation, an open access satellite TV/reading room and a student common room.

Students have access to German language newspapers and magazines, Computer Assisted Language Learning resources and the recently modernised Language Laboratory, including satellite television facilities, and there are regular seasons of German films.

The Department shares many academic and social activities with the other language departments and has its own active students’ German Society which organises a regular informal Stammtisch and various cultural and social events. It periodically arranges visits to German cities (a large group visited Munich at Easter 2003), and produces a German play every year - some of our productions have won national awards.
