MSc by Research in Geographical Sciences

We offer MSc by Research programmes in Physical Geography. These degrees are a great option if you,

  • want to pursue a MSc programme with more flexibility and dedicated time for your own research
  • are considering doing a PhD but would like a taste of what a research-led degree can offer first. Our MSc by Research degrees can be upgraded to a PhD after 1 year provided the student is performing to a satisfactory level and funding is available
  • want to gain a high level of skill and experience in an area that is not well covered by taught MSc programmes either in Bristol or elsewhere

MSc by Research programmes can be carried out full time (1 year) or part time (2 years). Fees are paid by the student (unless otherwise stated in the project outline), and research costs covered by the supervisors. Details of fees can be found here. While this is a research-led MSc programme, we offer students the opportunity to follow relevant courses of their choice during the programme.
