The Michael Freeman Prize

The prize was created in memory of Michael Freeman, former holder of the Ashley Watkins Chair in French Studies at Bristol University and long-standing editor of the French Studies journal. The £100 prize is awarded annually for the best undergraduate essay in the fields of poetry, medieval or renaissance studies.

2011 winner

The 2011 winner of the prize is Rachel Stewart.  Rachel was awarded the prize for the best essay on Medieval or Renaissance literature produced by a final-year student

2010 winner

The first winner of the Michael Freeman Prize is Sarah Stevenson for her essay on 'La Chanson de Roland'.
