Proactis Performance Enhancements

Following feedback from colleagues about the speed and performance issues experienced when using Proactis, we have implemented two changes to address this problem. They are as follows:

Indexing records in the database

The software supplier (Proactis) has created a programme that can be set up to run periodically and re-index all the records held in the larger tables in the database. We have not used this programme before so, following a period of testing, we have now scheduled this to run on a regular basis. Initial feedback has already been received from users who have noticed an improvement in performance. Apart from experiencing faster response times, staff will not notice any other change and document numbers are unaffected.

Archiving records in the database

The system contains an option to archive records that are completed after a certain time. We have enabled this option so that, on a monthly basis, any completed records over a year old will be flagged as archived. When searching for a record, only live data will be retrieved by default and because there is less data being used in the search, the results will appear quicker. Staff wishing to look at a historic record, that has been archived, can still do this by changing the option at the botton of the search to include archived records.
