The research in the departments of Music, Film and TV, and Theatre relates broadly to three key research strengths: practice-as-research; analysing creative processes and material production; and histories of performance arts, with a particular emphasis on politics and marginal histories.  The latest Research Excellence Framework (REF2021) has confirmed the high quality of our research and its impact in our joint submission (28 FTE staff):

• More than 50% of our outputs were judged to be ‘world-leading’, and 86% ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ 
• 67% of our impact case-studies were judged ‘world-leading’ 
• Our environment was judged to be 100% ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’
