Updated Policy for Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Leave for Postgraduate Research Students

21 August 2018

Change to policy details and location of policy.

Since 1 August 2018, the policy for maternity, paternity and adoption leave for University funded postgraduate research students has been incorporated within the University Regulations and Code of Practice for Research Degree Programmes. Previously this policy was held on the University's Student Funding Office website.

Since 2014, students in receipt of Research Council funding (from RCUK) have been entitled to increased periods of funding to cover maternity, paternity and adoption leave. From 1 August 2018, students who are in receipt of a University of Bristol postgraduate scholarship and those funded through departmental and faculty funding, will also be entitled to equivalent maternity, paternity and adoption leave funding.

Students who think they may be affected by this should ensure that they have read and understood the policy. Any student who intends to take a period of leave (for either maternity, paternity or adoption) should contact their school's Postgraduate Administrator at the earliest opportunity. The Postgraduate Administrator will confirm the source of funding and the level of financial support that may be available.

Students who are self-funded or who receive funding from other sources (including Alumni funding) will be entitled to suspend their studies but will not necessarily receive the equivalent financial support.
