Examination venues

Many examinations are held in venues within the University precinct. However in main exam periods we may also use some external venues:

Bristol City Football Ground (Exhibition Hall)

The exhibition hall is under the Dolman Stand at the club's Ashton Gate stadium. Venue postcode is: BS3 2EJ.

A free coach service will be available to take invigilators and candidates to the examinations held at the Exhibition Centre at Bristol City Football Ground. The coaches will park on the West side of Woodland Road (on the same side as the Merchant Venturer's Building), between the Merchant Venturer's Building and the junction with University Road. Food and drink must NOT be consumed on the coaches. Please be aware that coaches may be leaving for other destinations from the same place at the same time, so check the destination labels in the front of your coach before boarding.

Coaches - AM Sessions

Several coaches will be available and will depart Bristol University between 08.30 - 08.50

There will be return coaches after your exam from the City Ground to Woodland Road both morning and afternoon.

Coaches - PM Sessions

Several coaches will be available and will depart Bristol University between 13.15 - 13.40

There will be return coaches after your exam from the City Ground to Woodland Road both morning and afternoon.

By Car

Free car parking is available at the venue. Please use the entrance on Winterstoke Road.

By Bus

Wessex Bristol's 505 service goes to Bower Ashton, from Redland and Clifton and may provide a service for some. The nearest stop to Bristol City Ground is at Blackmoors Lane roundabout (The stop before UWE Bower Ashton)

Coombe Dingle Sports Centre

Coombe Dingle is just under 3 miles from the centre of the University precinct, and would therefore take about an hour to walk. Venue postcode is: BS9 2BJ

By Car

There is ample free parking at the Sports Centre.

By Bus

There are many First Bristol buses which run from the University precinct towards Coombe Lane.

All the buses below stop: at the top of Park Street, on the Triangle and on Whiteladies Road (TA Centre/BBC):

Please note that given the number of exams being held at Coombe Dingle these buses may be very busy at certain times. We have alerted First to the likely increased traffic, but you should allow plenty of time and consider purchasing advanced tickets or having the correct change available to minimise delays when joining the services.

Alternatively you may choose to use the 16 Wessex Red University service to travel directly from campus. The nearest stop to Coombe Dingle is in Saville Road (about 15 minutes walk from the Sports Centre). See the University Bus Service web page for more information.

By Rail

Coombe Dingle is approximately 25 minutes walk from Sea Mills railway station on the Severn Beach Line. There are regular trains from Montpelier, Clifton Down and Redland stations. See Bristol City Council web site for details of fares and times.

There is a small cafe in the pavilion at Coombe Dingle, which is adjacent to the exam hall. This will be open from 8:00 in the morning and at lunch times during the examination period, and serves teas and coffees, sandwiches and light meals.


The Passenger Shed (Brunel's Old Station)

The Passenger Shed is adjacent to Temple Meads Railway Station and is just under 1.5 miles from the centre of the University precinct, and would therefore take about 30 minutes to walk. The entrance is at the bottom of the station approach, on the left hand side (adjacent to Cafe Gusto). Venue postcode is: BS1 6QH.

University of the West of England (Exhibition and Conference Centre)

The venue is on the UWE Frenchay campus and is accessed via the North Entrance. Venue postcode is: BS34 8QZ.

A free coach service will be available to take invigilators and candidates to the examinations held at the University of the West of England (Exhibition and Conference Centre) The coaches will park on the East side of Woodland Road, between Cantocks Close and the School of Arts/Archaeology and Anthropology (No.43). Food and drink must NOT be consumed on the coaches. Please be aware that coaches may be leaving for other destinations from the same place at the same time, so check the destination labels in the front of your coach before boarding.

Several coaches will be available and will depart Bristol University between 08.00 - 08.30.

By Car

Free car parking is available at the venue, via the North Entrance off the A4174 ring road. Please collect a car parking permit from reception and display it in your vehicle at all times.

By Rail

The venue is approximately twenty minutes walk from Filton Abbey Wood station and a short bus journey from Bristol Parkway Station. Buses from Bristol Parkway are routes nos. 318, 319, 517, 518, 581 or 625. From Abbey Wood, take bus 581. The nearest bus stop to the Exhibition and Conference Centre on Filton Lane is currently out of use and you will need to use the bus stop on the main UWE Campus - Then follow the orange route to the Exam venue.

By Bus

You may use the University Wessex Red bus service - Routes11/12/13/14/15 and 19 all go to the UWE Frenchay campus. See the Wessex Red website for more information.

The nearest bus stop to the Exhibition and Conference Centre is at the main UWE Frenchay campus.
