This open module is designed to allow participants to choose an area of study connected with teaching and learning in higher education. This might stem from interest, a particular issue in their own teaching context, or both. Other staff development courses, either at Bristol or elsewhere, can be used as a starting point for this module.
A programme tutor will be assigned upon registration for this module. He or she, in conjunction with the participant's Departmental mentor, will provide support where needed.
Participants are expected to negotiate both the area of study and the practice-based task (see below) with a programme tutor and their Departmental mentor, and to spend an appropriate amount of study time in the completion of this module.
The module incorporates an appropriate practice-based task and a short written reflection based on this that will provide evidence (for your portfolio) of your thinking, awareness and growing competence in the chosen area. This task must be negotiated with a programme tutor before completion.
There is an option to do a more extended accredited assignment. Successful completion of the accredited pathway of the programme leads to a PGCertHE (60 M-level credits).
Details of the practice-based task and reflective account/extended assignment are on our Blackboard course. (You will be given access to this on enrolment to the programme)
