The Careers Service offers information, advice and guidance to Postgraduate Researchers from across the Faculties. Working in close partnership with Faculties and departments we help individual researchers to make well informed career decisions and to boost their employability skills so that they can compete effectively in the job market - whether your intention is to remain in Academia or to transition into other employment.
Education Support Unit (ESU)
The Education Support Unit supports development activities for postgraduate researchers as well as new and established academic staff by contributing to the University's Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (TLHE) programme for postgraduates and research staff who are engaged to teach and/or support students’ learning.
IT Services
IT Services provides a wide range of training and learning resources to enable you to develop your IT skills, including:
Diagnostic tools to assess your current level of IT competence
Training courses and workshops on specific topics or software packages (eg email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, EndNote, web authoring).
Self-paced learning resources for independent study
Individual help and advice: staff at the IT Help Desk in the Computer Centre can offer assistance with IT matters.
Language Centre
The Language Centre offers a range of units in Applied Foreign Languages (AFL) and in English as a Foreign Language (EFL). There is also a self-access centre, open to all students, for independent language study.
Libraries
The Library’s team of faculty and subject librarians provides support to students in making the best use of the information resources available. Your subject librarian can help you find relevant information from reliable sources and will advise you on how to identify, navigate and use information resources successfully. Subject librarians also provide guidance via subject-specific web pages.
Centre for Public Engagement (CPE)
The Centre for Public Engagement is involved in the many ways in which University of Bristol staff and students interact with the public. Public Engagement is part of the University's vision and recognised as a valued and valuable part of academic life. Many of our researchers give public talks, work with the media, advise policy makers, display their work at festivals and collaborate with a wide variety of people through their research and teaching.
Research and Enterprise Development provide courses, workshops, and one-to-one support for postgraduates on a variety of subjects including: Sources of Research Funding, Writing Research Bids, Developing the Impact of Research, Working with Industry, Intellectual Property, and Research Commercialisation.
