Faculty Quality Assurance Teams (FQATs)

Faculty Quality Assurance Teams consider and review departmental mechanisms for monitoring and sustaining the academic standards necessary for achieving stated aims and objectives in relation to teaching and learning within the University, faculty and school plans. They also comment on best practice within schools and help disseminate that within faculties. Each Team writes an annual report on their findings for the Plenary Group of FQAT Chairs and Education Committee.

Teams are made up of small groups of academic staff and student representatives - there is one team for each of the six faculties. They interact annually with the academic schools in their faculties. Each year, the Plenary Group of FQAT Chairs identifies core themes, which all teams pursue, in addition to covering quality assurance topics relevant to the faculty. An important part of the teams' work is sharing good practice.

The FQATs are also responsible for overseeing the process of Annual Programme Review and all report(s) are passed onto the Chair of the Faculty Quality Assurance Team for consideration annually by the FQAT.

A flowchart has been designed to try and illustrate some of the yearly processes that FQATs undertake.

Terms of Reference

• To consider and review school mechanisms for monitoring and sustaining the academic standards necessary for achieving stated aims and objectives in relation to teaching and learning within the University, faculty and school plans
• To comment on the extent to which procedures in place in individual schools reflect best practice
• To identify good practice in relation to the maintenance of academic standards and to make appropriate recommendations to Education Committee
• To make annual reports on their findings to the Education Committee and to the relevant faculty committee

Dates

Individual teams set their own meeting and visit dates.

The Plenary Group of FQAT Chairs meets several times a year.
