Roger is e-learning support officer in the ESU. He is responsible for promoting, supporting and evaluating the use of technology-enhanced learning (TEL) , and providing support for staff wishing to use new technologies to enhance learning, teaching or administration.
Roger's role includes providing one-to-one and group consultation, support and training. He is co-ordinator of the e-learning module of the TLHE Programme, and runs a range of staff development workshops including "Blending e-learning with your Face-to-face teaching", "Planning for e-submission and e-marking" and "Introduction to Blackboard for academic and research staff". He also runs local workshops for Faculties or Schools on request, assists on the Blackboard HelpDesk, and co-ordinates the e-learning support network.
He is a Certified Member of the Association for Learning Technology (ALT). Interests include e-submission and e-marking, the effective use of Virtual Learning Environments, peer assessment, blended learning, learning activity design, and most recently the use of e-pens and smartpens, including for provision of feedback.
Prior to joining the ESU, Roger worked for 3 years as a Learning Technologist at the University of Bath. Before moving into HE, Roger was an e-learning development Officer in Further Education, leading the implementation of a major e-learning staff development programme for BECTA. Prior to that he was a Librarian and taught in Further Education and the secondary sector. He has an MSc in Information and Library Management from the University of Bristol, and a PGCE from the Institute of Education in London.
