Learning and Teaching Adviser: General Duties
The role of Learning & Teaching Adviser / Head of Teaching should encompass the following functions:
- To publicise information on learning, teaching and assessment within her/his subject area from both internal and external sources. This includes keeping academic colleagues up to date with developments within the Quality Assurance Agency through the ESU and generally disseminating information within the Department.
- To advise departments on how to locate and use of examples of good practice (national and international) in the learning, teaching and assessment of the relevant discipline. To facilitate this the LTA may find it useful to form links with the relevant LTSN Subject Centre.
- To meet with the FQAT as part of the annual FQAT visit cycle to discuss matters such as the department's progress towards the achievement of the University's Education Strategy, learning & teaching practices including best practice and any other relevant issues.
- To keep up to date with University policy documents relating to learning, teaching and assessment.
- To provide an accessible point of contact for members of departmental staff with learning, teaching and assessment queries and to provide a liaison point between departments and academic support services concerned with learning, teaching and assessment, such as the Education Support Unit, Graduate School of Education and Staff Development.
- To advise on academic mentoring within the department and liaise with and advise departmental mentors for new staff on the Teaching and Learning in Higher Education programme.
- To advise on the organisation and implementation of the peer observation/review system for learning, teaching and assessment operated by the department.
- To advise on the organisation of departmental away days on learning, teaching and assessment.
- To liase with the Faculty Quality Assurance Team, the Head of Department and the Education Support Unit and advise the appropriate person or group of any problems identified within the department.
