Six awards – for members of academic and support staff from across the University who demonstrate excellence in contributing to education and the enhancement of the student experience.
i. Deans are invited to ask Faculty Education Directors to coordinate the nomination of up to TWO individuals to go forward to the final stage of selection. Similarly the Deputy Registrar is also invited to co-ordinate the nomination of up to two individuals, or teams, to go forward to the final stage. The Faculty or Deputy Registrar need not nominate an individual if: no candidates come forward, or, it is felt that the candidates do not meet the quality threshold.
ii. A sub-group of the University Education Committee, chaired by the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education), will select the six winners of the award.
Recipients of the award will be judged in relation to their contribution to education and enhancing the student experience at the University of Bristol.
Following the presentation of an award, an individual may not be nominated for the award for the next three years.
i. Advocates (i.e. members of University of Bristol staff who wish to nominate a colleague for an award), who will normally be the line manager of the nominee or the Head of School / Divisional Head, should complete the relevant form stating how the nominee meets the criteria for the award (max 1000 words).
OR
Applicants should complete the relevant nomination form stating how they meet the criteria for the award (max 1000 words).
The statement should be evaluative, citing evidence to support their case wherever possible. The form should then be sent to the Faculty Office / Registrar’s Office by the stipulated deadline in an electronic format.
ii. Faculties / The Deputy Registrar will determine, on the basis of the applications, which TWO individuals will go forward to the University panel for consideration. The Faculty Education Director(s) / Deputy Registrar will write a supporting statement (max 500 words) for the individual. Applicants and their advocates should be informed of the outcome of this stage.
iii. Faculties / The Registrar’s Office should send the electronic copy of the completed nomination forms to Mike White (m.white@bris.ac.uk cc: esu-info@bris.ac.uk) in the Education Support Unit by noon, Monday 13th February 2012. The form should also be returned to the successful nominee(s).
iv. The judging panel will consider the submitted applications (with supporting statements) and select six awardees in relation to the criteria. Nominees will be informed by e-mail of the decision of the panel.
v. Awards will be presented to the winners at the University's Learning and Teaching Exhibition.
