> Nomination form for a University Award for Influence in Higher Education 2011-12 [doc, 64kb]

Definition

An award will be made to a member of academic staff who raises the profile of education and influences higher education (whether in their subject discipline or across the sector) beyond the University of Bristol.

Selection

i.       Deans are invited to ask Faculty Education Directors to coordinate the nomination of one individual in the Faculty to go forward to the final stage of selection. The Faculty need not nominate an individual for the award if: no candidates come forward, or, it is felt that the candidates do not meet the quality threshold.

ii.      A sub-group of the University Education Committee, chaired by the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education), will determine the one winner of the award.

Criteria for Award

Recipients of the award will be judged on their efforts in raising the profile of education and influencing the scope of higher education beyond the University of Bristol, whether it be within their subject discipline or across the sector. An individual may only be awarded the Award once.

Process for Award

i.       Advocates (i.e. members of University of Bristol staff who wish to nominate a colleague for an award), who will normally be the line manager of the nominee or the Head of School, if different, should complete the relevant form stating how the nominee meets the criteria for the award (max 1000 words).

OR

Applicants should complete the relevant nomination form stating how they meet the criteria for the award (max 1000 words).

In both cases, the statement should be evaluative, citing evidence to support their case wherever possible. The form should then be sent to the Faculty Office by the stipulated deadline in an electronic format.

ii.      Faculties will determine, on the basis of the application forms received, which individual will go forward to the University panel for consideration. Once this has been determined the Faculty Education Director(s) will write a statement (max 500 words) in support of the nominee. Faculties should inform applicants and their advocates of the outcome of the faculty stage.

iii.     Faculties should send an electronic copy of the completed nomination form to Mike White (m.white@bris.ac.uk cc: esu-info@bris.ac.uk) in the Education Support Unit by noon, Monday 13th February 2012. The completed form should also be returned to the successful nominee.

iv.     The judging panel will consider the submitted nominations (with supporting statements from the faculty) and select the winner in relation to the criteria. Nominees will be informed by e-mail of the decision of the panel.

v.      Awards will be presented to the winners at the University's Learning and Teaching Exhibition.
