Guidance for University Teaching Awards

For 2011/12

Main Principles of the Awards

1.    The University Teaching Awards (UTA) recognise distinction and excellence in the support of student education by the presentation of awards to a number of individuals in the categories outlined in the table below.

2.    The ‘awards’ do not have monetary value attached to them, but indicate the high esteem in which an individual is held by the University as determined by Education Committee, or sub-group thereof.

3.    Although the awards will be University level awards, faculties will coordinate applications and endorse a particular nomination(s) for each award. The process by which each of the awards is made is provided in this guidance.

4.    Those presented for consideration for a Teaching Award will do so by nomination by a colleague, normally their line manager (for example the nominee’s Head of School or the relevant Divisional Head), though nominees can nominate themselves.

5.    These Teaching Awards are part of a framework to recognise and encourage teaching and learning, which also includes the University Teaching Fellowship Scheme.
