NEW: Food Waste Collections at the University

From August 2011 the University will begin food waste collections from the entire University. This will build on the successes of Students Halls of Residences Composting Schemes in partnership with Bristol City Council  and the University’s own ‘Rocket’ Composting System for The Hawthorns food waste.

At the University main sites we know that food waste makes up to between 17% and 25% of our landfill rubbish bins and this is both a waste of resources and can also cause harmful emissions as it biodegrades in landfill. In addition recent legislative changes indicate a future ban on biodegradable food waste from Landfill in the UK.

More information and posters on the University’s composting scheme are available.
