Do I need to be over 18?
There is no minimum age for the programme, but we will assess each under 18 applicant individually. This is to ensure all our students are suited to an adult learning environment.
If you are under 18 when the course starts, your parents or legal guardians must email us a completed consent form.
You will also need a guardian in the UK. The guardian should be someone who can be contacted in case of emergency, to help resolve problems – for example, if your parents do not speak English. The guardian should be able to take responsibility if for any reason you leave the University. If your parents do not know anyone who can act as a guardian, they can try the AEGIS website.
Your parents will remain responsible for your welfare while you are staying with the guardian. Students will need to make their own travel arrangements.
If you are an under 18 student, we recommend you live in a University residence. Find out more about our accommodation.

If you have studied a mixed curriculum, please contact us to see whether you are eligible for the International Foundation Programme.

If you do not have the qualifications required for undergraduate study, please contact us to see if you are eligible for the International Foundation Programme.
International Baccalaureate or A Levels as main qualification
If you have taken International Baccalaureate or A Levels as your main high school qualification, you should apply directly to the undergraduate degree programme of your choice.
If you still need to improve your English, you might be interested in our Pre-sessional courses in academic English.
Can I progress to an undergraduate degree at Bristol?
Studying on our International Foundation Programme guarantees you a conditional offer or an interview from the University of Bristol. However, some degrees are highly competitive or require extra qualifications. Your first choice of degree is not guaranteed. When you complete the IFP, you can progress to an agreed degree relevant to your previous studies, provided you meet the entry requirements and/or the interview standards. You select which degrees you wish to apply for.
To study an undergraduate degree at the University of Bristol you must successfully complete the International Foundation Programme. Your high school grades must also meet the minimum entry requirements for undergraduate study.
The above equivalencies give you an idea of what grade you would need to achieve on the IFP to meet the entry requirement for your chosen degree. Undergraduate entry requirements are listed under the individual course entries on our course finder. Many degree programmes require a compulsory minimum grade in specific units.
Our qualification is also recognised by other UK universities.
