Academic Writing and Oral Skills for Research students
This course focuses on developing the language and skills required to succeed as a research student in a British university environment.
Aims
The course aims to develop generic academic writing and oral skills required for research purposes in a UK higher education environment. Towards this aim, the course highlights those aspects of academic writing and oral skills that are transferable across a wide range of academic disciplines and text types.
Learning outcomes
Learners will develop their ability to:
- analyse the construction of typical spoken and written texts produced within a research environment
- identify and account for disciplinary variations in spoken and written texts
- analyse linguistic features of academic language
- consolidate and expand academic grammatical and lexical knowledge
- produce appropriately constructed spoken and written texts.
