Power amplifiers are one of the main fundamental building blocks of all modern wireless communications systems. They are used in all base stations and all the mobile units which are currently available. The project was a £1.8M joint venture between the Communications Systems & Networks Group at the University of Bristol and the University of Cardiff.

The project developed a new design methodology for highly linear and efficient power amplifiers. The overall objectives of the project were to increase the efficiency of power amplifiers to over 50% and to develop new approaches to design which would result in a one pass design process for highly efficient linear power amplifiers for future communications systems.
