Entry requirements, fees and how to apply

Applicants must have a UK honours degree or equivalent. They must also have had a minimum of one year's appropriate professional experience which will usually mean post qualification experience. International applicants for the MEd, whose first language is not English, are required to have achieved at least IELTS 6.5 (with all sub-tests no less than 6) or equivalent.

Applicants who are not graduates but have a teaching or other professional qualification and a minimum of one year's appropriate professional experience can be registered initially for the Postgraduate Diploma. Such students will have their registration transferred to the MEd upon completion of three 20 credit assignments at an appropriate standard and the completed Diploma units will be counted towards the MEd degree.

MEd Psychology of Education (BPS) Programme
Applicants for the MEd Psychology of Education (BPS) programme are expected to have achieved a 2:1 (or equivalent) in their first degree. Applicants for this programme are also advised that they will be expected to complete at least one unit in Statistics and their coursework will require them to demonstrate a wide range of research skills.  They are likely to need competence in mathematics to the equivalent of GCSE grade C or above, and pre-course study or revision is advisable.  All applicants should be aware that most students on these programmes will already have studied psychology and will have relevant professional experience.  Any who have not will be advised to undertake prior reading in order to enter the MEd on a par with the majority.   Applicants for BPS membership who do not already have the equivalent of six months’ study of Psychology at degree level should discuss their position with the course staff.   Their options include additional study elsewhere (for example taking an OU course at level 2 or above) or private study and an examination in the summer.
