About

Welcome to the BSL Poetry Anthology

This is the first large-scale collection of on-line BSL poetry and short stories, created at the University of Bristol as part of research on metaphor in creative sign language (funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council – grant number AH/G011672/1).

We are interested to learn about the features of metaphors in creative sign language and what is special about metaphors created in a visual-manual-spatial language.

The poems in this collection have been composed and performed by experienced Deaf poets.  We are creating commentaries on the metaphors we see in the poems, but we have also posted them here on this anthology website simply for people to watch and enjoy them.
