Simon Brownhill received Nursery World Equipment & Resources Award
4 October 2019
Many congratulations to Simon Brownhill who won a Nursery World Equipment & Resources Award for his co-authored book 'Men in Early Years Settings'.
Dr. Simon Brownhill FHEA is a Lecturer in Education (Teaching and Learning) at the School of Education, University of Bristol. His most recent book, Men in Early Years Settings: Building a Mixed Gender Workforce, co-authored with nursery owner David Wright, was published late last year by Jessica Kingsley Publishing (www.jkp.com).
We are delighted to announce that the book has received a Silver Medal in the strongly contested 'Professional Books' category at the 2019 Nursery World annual awards. The result was announced at a gala event in London at the end of September. Judges praised the ‘accessible style’, ‘inspiring quotes from interviews’, the ‘excellent referencing’ and the fact that ‘they [the authors] have not preached but offered some excellent evidence on why a gender mixed workforce is beneficial’. To be recognised in this way by professional colleagues is a true accolade and testament to the rigour and skill of the authors in tackling a challenging subject with the ability to communicate the key elements of research, theory and policy, and to provide a practical toolkit to guide those working in the sector, both practitioners and policy makers, towards more inclusive practice.
The book demonstrates once again the significant benefits to be gained through partnership working between universities and industry sectors to produce practical and effective resources that can effect change.
