Professor Rosamund Sutherland

31 January 2019

Ros Sutherland, the former Head of the School of Education and more recently an Emeritus Professor, passed away on Saturday 26 January 2019.

Ros was first appointed as a Professor of Education in 1995 and made a huge contribution to the School, to the University and the wider Bristol community over many years and was still actively involved in the work of the School. She was a significant scholar making important contributions to the learning of mathematics, digital technologies, socio-cultural theory as well as being an active advocate of social justice in the City and beyond. Many people will also remember Ros for her creative energy, as a hugely influential Head of School, and as a warm, open and engaging colleague and friend.

Ros presented her Valedictory Lecture ‘Cerebrations and celebrations of a retiring academic: from division to integration’ in October 2017.

The University will be marking her passing formally in due course.  Messages of condolence can be sent  c/o  mary.oconnell@bristol.ac.uk
