30 July 2018
Our annual publication is now available in both print from the universities online shop and, in collaboration with the Bristol University Press, as a fully interactive e-book available on Amazon and other platforms.
The SOE publishes the guide as a resource for all professionals working with children and young people in England. It provides guidance about the law and general advice on education professionals' duties legal responsibilities and rights including chapters on equality, child protection and pupil safety.
The 2018/19 edition has been comprehensively revised and updated. It now includes additional guidance on staff grievance procedures and whistleblowing, data protection, protecting children online and school funding.
Endorsements from the Chartered College of Teaching, Tes Institute and National Association of Headteachers highlight its value. Professor Dame Alison Peacock, Chief Executive, Chartered College of Teaching said, “The Bristol Guide provides a succinct overview of all aspects of the education system in England. Complex organisational relationships and areas of policy are presented in a clear and straightforward way. It is an invaluable primer for those new to the teaching profession or those moving from overseas, but is also a very useful reference guide for experienced practitioners and school leaders!”.
The guide is used extensively by school leaders, governors, qualified teachers, trainee teachers working towards the standards for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs), Teaching Assistants (TAs) and those working towards their Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HTLA) status.
