School of Education staff recognised for their outstanding contribution at ‘Bristol Teaching Awards’
7 June 2018
We are proud to announce that two members of staff from the School of Education were winners at the ‘Bristol Teaching Awards’, which was held on Tuesday 5 June 2018, in the Wills Memorial Building.
The Bristol Teaching Awards recognise members of staff who have made an outstanding contribution to teaching, the provision of support for students and education more generally. The awards are joint venture between Bristol SU and the University.
The winner of the ‘Students’ Outstanding Teaching Award’ was Meg Attwood, who teaches on the MSc Psychology of Education programme. Meg was nominated by students for her outstanding teaching on the M-level unit Counselling Learners with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs. This is testament to her innovative approach to teaching and her incredibly supportive and sensitive way of communicating with all 90 students who attended the unit.
Meg Attwood said, ‘The nomination and award mean a great deal to me and I have been overwhelmed by everyone's kindness. It is a privilege being part of the School of Education and working with such wonderfully supportive colleagues’.
A new category - The Special Recognition Award - was awarded in honour of Liz Roberts, from the School of Education, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Liz was given the special award as recognition of her outstanding work supporting student communities and education processes across the Schools of Education and of Economics, Finance and Management. Liz was an exceptional individual, who made a significant difference to the student communities she supported, the student administration teams she managed, the educational environment of her two Schools, and the institution as a whole. Members of staff from the School along with Liz’s husband, father and Shaun the Sheep (Liz’s favourite) were in attendance to celebrate her achievements.
Many congratulations to all winners and nominees at this years' Bristol Teaching Awards.
