Sibel Erduran, Reader in Science Education, has been elected to serve as International Coordinator on the board of the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST). NARST is a worldwide science education research association based in the USA. It’s mission is to be an organization of professionals committed to the improvement of science teaching and learning through research. Since its inception in 1928, NARST has promoted research in science education and the communication of knowledge generated by the research. The ultimate goal of NARST is to help all learners achieve science literacy. NARST promotes this goal by: 1) encouraging and supporting the application of diverse research methods and theoretical perspectives from multiple disciplines to the investigation of teaching and learning in science; 2) communicating science education research findings to researchers, practitioners, and policy makers; and 3) cooperating with other educational and scientific societies to influence educational policies.
I am honored to be elected by the membership of the National Association for Research in Science Teaching. NARST is one of the oldest and key professional organisations for research in science education.
Dr Sibel Erduran
Sibel's duties for the 3-year role will begin in March at a board meeting to be held during the Annual Conference in Philadelphia, USA.
"I am honored to be elected by the membership of the National Association for Research in Science Teaching. NARST is one of the oldest and key professional organisations for research in science education. Even though it is primarily an American association, its international membership has been increasing in recent years. Currently a third of its membership are from outside of the USA. In my role, I would like to promote more diversity and participation particularly from under-represented countries including low-income countries. I look forward to the challenge of working on the Board which consists of influential scholars in the field of science education."
