Teaching resources

Students from our MSc Science and Education course are encouraged to develop teaching resources linked to recent scientific discoveries as part of the Science Update unit. Students work with mentors from the different science departments to learn about new discoveries and techniques.

Here are some examples of handouts and activities made by the students:

Climate change

Radioctivity

A Physics A level handout on radioactive decay (Word, 600.5 Kb)

Nanotechnology

A review of teaching resources currently available to secondary schools (Word, 130.5 Kb)

These images illustrate some of the Power point presentations that have been created and evaluated for use in teaching or science communication by the students on the MSc SURE programme:

Research projects

Research Methods in Science Education

As part of the MSc Science and Education Research Methods unit students presented on their chosen research topics. This Powerpoint presentation (PowerPoint, 540 Kb) lists some example research questions tackled in the year 2007-2008.

Research Methods in Science Education Ethics

Supervised individual study

If a student, confident in their ability to study independently, wishes to research a burning issue for their own professional development it is possible to work with a university tutor to develop an assignment targeted at their personal needs.

For example a student investigated the

Transition between the new A-level Chemistry Specification Contents and the 1st year of undergraduate study at the School of Chemistry, University of Bristol (Word, 154.5 Kb)

If you would like to know more about any of these topics contact msc-sure@bris.ac.uk to be put in touch with the student concerned.
