Helen Wodehouse Lecture Theatre, School of Education, 35 Berkeley Square, Bristol, BS8 1JA
This event is part of the School of Education's 'Bristol Conversations in Education' seminar series.
Speaker: Dr Simon Marginson
Simon Marginson reflects on the frantic first two years of the ESRC/HEFCE Centre for Global Higher Education (CGHE), a partnership of five UK and eight international universities, charged with the task of building a longer-term research programme on the future of higher education. Since CGHE opened its doors the ground has shifted rapidly, in the UK with the Brexit referendum, new questioning of the social mission of higher education and its role in inequality, and debate on student fees and loans; and beyond the border, the Trump presidency, tensions around globalisation and migration in Europe and North America, and the rise and rise of China. All of these changes are impacting universities and their students and staff, and are encompassed in the 16 research projects in CGHE’s ambitious programme, and its other activities.
