Cerebrations and celebrations of a retiring academic: From division to integration - Professor Rosamund Sutherland, University of Bristol
Rosamund Sutherland, University of Bristol
Reception Room, Wills Memorial Building, Queens Rd, Bristol, BS8 1TH
'Before I set off on a new venture this is an opportunity for me to pause and reflect on my life as an academic and as a woman. Being an academic has been a pivot in my life and also a great privilege. It has given me a purpose and my work as an academic will form the central part of this talk. Surrounding and enveloping this will be the remembered beginnings and the imagined endings. What drives me now is a desire to do something about the severe injustices in the education system and the stark differences in educational opportunities for young people who live in South Bristol compared to those who live in other areas of the City. Within this talk I will draw on my work as a governor of Merchants’ Academy and set out a vision for educational change that I hope will take place within my lifetime'.
