Bristol Conversations in Education - Researching and writing about educational activism and dissent from inside academia

4 October 2017, 5.00 PM - 4 October 2017, 6.00 PM

Dr Cassie Earl, School of Education, University of Bristol

Room 2.26, School of Education, 35 Berkeley Square, Clifton, Bristol, BS8 1JA

This event is part of the School of Education's 'Bristol Conversations in Education' seminar series.

Speaker: Dr Cassie Earl

In this presentation Cassie will talk about her past work researching sites of radical education and her next book project on dissent and activism in higher education. The presentation will explore what kinds of sites have been included in her research and explores possible ways of thinking about radical education and educational activism. She will discuss the ups and downs, methods and challenges of researching activism and activists, and how working in solidarity with social movements and people attempting to change the world, is not always as romantic, or even as friendly as it sounds. This presentation is a story of one person’s journey on the edge of a post-disciplinary ethos, using challenging methodologies, and often falling into the narrow spaces in between hope and despair.
