Aliandra Barlete (Sao Paulo, Brasil) and Simon Glasser from RED

Room 2.17, 35 Berkeley Square

We are planning a Newton Fund Workshop drawing on the expertise of a newly arrived doctoral student– Aliandra Barlete (Sao Paulo, Brasil) – and Simon Glasser from RED who has this fund as part of his portfolio.

The broad aim of the Newton Fund is to build science and innovation capacity in developing countries.

The Newton Fund is now part of the UK’s official development assistance, targeted at many of the countries where we have collaborative links The fund has several different income streams directed at

(1) people: improving science and innovation expertise (known as ‘capacity building’), student and researcher fellowships, mobility schemes and joint centres.

(2) research: research collaborations on development topics.

(3) translation: innovation partnerships and challenge funds to develop innovative solutions on development topics.

Simon will be able to set the broad policy/programme scene and Ali will be able to give us advice on what she thinks ends up to be a winning proposal - we hope it will be an informative and inspiring session.

Do come and plan to advance a Newton Fund bid either as a Centre or an individual.
