Raising achievement and participation in Maths: learning from action research in primary and secondary classrooms

10 June 2015, 5.00 PM - 10 June 2015, 6.30 PM

Primary and secondary teachers reporting on their findings and implications for practice

4.10, 35 Berkeley Square, Bristol BS8 1JA

This event is part of the Festival of Education series from 3 - 15 June 2015.

This session will report, actively, on the results of a research project that was successful at raising achievement and participation in Mathematics at both Primary and Secondary levels. Two cohorts of teachers undertook action-research in their own classrooms and will present their work. There were two broad strands: (1) the power of doing 'higher tier' work with students predicted low GCSE grades; (2) what teachers can do to generate rich discussion of mathematical concepts (and the powerful effect this has on achievement). We will share what we have learnt and there will be space for discussion and reflection on implications for your own classroom.
