3 June 2015, 6.00 PM - 3 June 2015, 7.00 PM

Professor Justin Dillon

Tiered Lecture Theatre, 12A Priory Road, Clifton, Bristol BS8 1TU

This event is a part of the Festival of Education series from 3 - 15 June 2015 and is being run in association with Bristol Green Capital 2015.

Head of School Professor Justin Dillon will be opening the Festival with his Inaugural lecture, 'Learning in diverse contexts: issues, challenges and opportunities'.

Initiatives such as Bristol Learning City and Bristol Green Capital offer opportunities to re-examine where exactly learning can take place. What is the role of museums, science centres and the outdoors in education? Do such places and spaces do more than increase motivation? In what ways can schools benefit from working more closely with other educational sites? In this talk Justin Dillon draws on evidence from the UK and overseas to illustrate the potential impact of collaborations between 'formal' education and 'informal' education.

This event will be followed by a drinks reception in the Social Sciences Complex Cafe.

Time: 6 - 7pm
