Title:- Forecasting magma pathways and location of eruptive fissures by inversion of volcanic edifice stresses
Volcanic hazard estimates depend on reliable forecasts of eruptive vent locations, generally based on empirical distributions of past vents. I will show, with a detailed application to Campi Flegrei caldera (Italy), that past vent locations can be used to infer the state of stress of a volcanic edifice and reconstruct likely magma pathways. This method returns information on the evolution of edifice stresses over edifice construction and destruction timescales, and forecasts of future vent locations informed by the mechanics of magma transport.
