Title: Why does the Earth stay habitable?

Abstract:

The Earth has been inhabited for around 90% of its existence. This requires remarkable long-term climate stability for billions of years. This cannot be a coincidence, and so there must be mechanisms that keep the climate from entering irreversible runaway greenhouse or icehouse states. While such mechanisms have been proposed for decades, there has never been any evidence on mechanism or rate. It is only in the last year that evidence has been obtained from the geological record...

All staff and students welcome.
