Application guidance and criteria
Individuals wishing to apply to the Bristol Industrial PhD Placement Fund are advised to read the following guidance and ensure they meet the eligibility criteria.
What is the application process?
As part of the Application Form, applicants are expected to outline a joint proposal with an external organisation, describing the intention of the placement and how it will benefit both parties.
The proposal should explain how and why you will benefit from this placement opportunity. This will include:
- details of the length of placement you wish to carry out (maximum duration of 3 months)
- a joint statement/commitment from the company to say they will take on the named student on the application.
All PhD students who are setting up NPIF funded placement, will be asked to discuss and sign the Academic Approval Form with Supervisor, School PGR director & Graduate Education Director, who will be asked to confirm that the named student has discussed their academic progress to date and is permitted to take up their placement opportunity.
Who is eligible for this funding?
All students funded by EPSRC are eligible for this funding, provided Academic approval is granted.
Students who are funded through other Research councils are not eligible for this funding but may be eligible for other funding opportunity. Please email Dr. Aby Sankaran.
What is the duration of the placement?
The placement can be up to three months in duration. Any extension or additional placement opportunity should be considered outside this placement agreement. This funding cannot be extended.
What does the funding cover?
The funding provided to cover the applicant’s stipend and tuition fees for the duration of the placement – any other costs associated with the placement (e.g. travel, equipment, project consumables) must be funded and provided by the host organisation. When do I need to start the placement?
You need to mutually agree a start date in consultation with your supervisor and a placement host organisation within a period of 6 months once you have been awarded with the Bristol Industrial PhD Placement funding.
Are there any other requirements expected of me?
All successful applicants will be required to submit a Placement Report after they have completd their placement. You will receive further details about this after you have submitted a successful application for funding.
