Background

Mike rejoined The University of Bristol in September 2015.  Areas of expertise include online learning design and delivery, staff development, effective use of Virtual learning Environments (VLEs), classroom technologies, blended learning, MOOCs and online assessment.

Mike has over ten years’ experience of embedding technology enhanced learning into academic practice at Russell Group institutions working at school and faculty level as well as for central services (in IT and quality assurance/enhancement). He has managed projects, teams and services, taught on accredited staff development programs and implemented and supported a wide range of technologies and pedagogies.

Prior to joining the team at Bristol, Mike worked at Newcastle University, delivering MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), managing the online exams service as well as providing staff development in a range of technologies and approaches to online assessment. Mike also worked at Durham University with responsibility for TEL support, and management of a team of learning technologists. Whilst there he also taught on the Postgraduate Certificate in Education and the Durham University Learning and Teaching Award. This followed Mike’s first job at Bristol working in the Medical School and in the Institute for Learning and research Technology.
