Our Thursday evening meetings, held in the University of Bristol's Archaeology Department (number 43), are jolly affairs with gripping lectures followed by lashings of free wine to assist the flow of hearty archaeological debate. Once nibbles and wine have been demolished, debaters and drinkers toddle over to the Highbury Vaults to continue the edification of their peers (who sometimes need more than just a snifter to appreciate fully the superiority of one's argument).

ArchSoc is open to all!!  Don't feel you have to be a smelly archaeologist to be a member!

"The need to understand ourselves, to discover the truth about our past, is a basic human characteristic" (
LEAKEY, R.E. 1981.THE MAKING OF MANKIND)

With the help of the department and their trusty Land Rovers we will also be exploring the region on exciting jaunts to places of interest - Stone Circles, Neolithic Long Barrows, Roman Villas, caves - you know the sort of thing.  These are especially valuable to first year students, and also allow non-Archaeology students to experience the fun of a day out!

So how much does all this cost?
We're all on a budget these days, but thankfuly membership is a bargain at a mere £6 per year or £15 for three years. You are also very welcome to pop in occasionally, paying just £1 at the door.
