Summary

Research

My research interests include dento-facial appearance and quality of life (particularly related to cleft lip and palate and head and neck cancer) and the effects of relationships and communication on health outcomes and health-related behaviour (particularly tobacco and alcohol use and adolescent sexual behaviour).

Teaching

I oversee the teaching of Personal and Professional Development and Communication themes in the Dental School. This includes the teaching of psychology, sociology, ethics and law and communication skills.

Biography

I completed my PhD in risky road user behaviour in 2002 at the University of Reading. I then worked on the ALSPAC Longitudinal Study at the University of Bristol until 2005 and was responsible for many of the measures of risky behaviour that were included in the study as the cohort entered adolescence. Between 2005 and 2008 I was a Research Fellow at Warwick Medical School working on parent-child relationships and child health outcomes. In July 2008 I was appointed Lecturer in Psychology at Bristol Dental School.
