Jennifer Haworth awarded funding from the Academy of Medical Sciences
6 February 2017
Dr Jennifer Haworth, an Academic Clinical Lecturer in Bristol Dental School’s Oral Microbiology group, has been awarded a Starter Grant for Clinical Lecturers from the Academy of Medical Sciences.
The grant is worth £20,200 for two years and will be used to pay for research consumables.
Jen's research will build on her highly successful PhD and further explore the role of Streptococcus gordonii surface proteins PadA and Hsa in mediating interactions with blood platelets and human tissues as relevant to risk of cardiovascular disease infective endocarditis.
The project will be based in Bristol Dental School’s Oral Microbiology department, collaborating with Dr Steve Kerrigan at the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland. The research will be supervised by Dr Angela Nobbs and Prof Tony Ireland.
The Academy of Medical Sciences Starter Grants are designed to allow research-active Clinical Lecturers to gather data to strengthen their bids for longer term fellowships and funding.
