Dental School Council hold a 2 day meeting at Bristol to discuss future planning in dental research and education.

The Dental School’s Council met in Bristol at the School of Oral and Dental Sciences, University of Bristol for a 2 day meeting. The Dental School’s Officers met on the 29
th of October and the full Dental School’s Council met on the following day. The Dental School’s Council was joined by the Dental School’s Officers group on the Thursday together with the Chief Dental Officers from England, Northern Ireland and Wales. The General Dental Council were represented through Professor Kevin O’Brien, Chairman of the Specialist Dental Education Board, and Mr Paul Feeney. The Chief Dental Officer, Mr Barry Cockcroft, also attended and a wide range of issues were discussed. This is a difficult time for all Dental Schools, with the White Paper, the Browne Report and the Comprehensive Spending Review having all had an impact on future planning in dental research and education.

The Dental School’s Council is chaired by Professor Bill Saunders who is Dean of Dundee Dental School. The Council is influential across a wide range of issues within the health services and universities. These meetings establish common ground and share common problems.
