At the recent meeting of the British Society for Medical Mycology (BSMM), Bristol PhD student, Richard Silverman, won the PhD BSMM Poster Prize for his work. He was also successful in securing a British Mycological Society Small Grant to attend the BSMM meeting.

This meeting took place at the University of Exeter on the 18th – 20th April. Five North American and nine European speakers were unfortunately unable to make it because of the volcanic eruption, but Bristol was well-represented by PhD students Richard Silverman and Lindsay Dutton, post-doctoral researcher Caroline Bamford, and Professor Howard Jenkinson.

Lindsay Dutton was already billed to speak and delivered a superb talk on Candida albicans research to an engaged audience. Professor Jenkinson was persuaded to fill one of the vacant slots and to talk further about this research theme from the School’s Oral Microbiology research group.
