Where dreams come true…
The setting for the 12th International Congress.
Organised by the American Cleft-Palate Craniofacial Association, the 12th International Congress on Cleft Lip/Palate and Related Craniofacial Conditions took place between 5th – 10th May at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista Hotel.
The congress attracted more than 1400 professionals from 65 countries around the world.
The Congress attracted an impressive range of professionals.
As well as various multidisciplinary presentations and meetings, the congress also provided an opportunity for the different International Task Forces to meet and discuss progress and aims for the future. Two such aims were to achieve consensus on holistic outcome measures that are sensitive to cultural differences, and to make recommendations for the initiation of multi-national studies, including research within developing countries.
The United Kingdom was well represented by Jonathan Sandy, Nichola Rumsey, Martin Persson and Nicola Stock from The Cleft Collective Bristol team, as well as surgeons, specialist nurses, speech and language therapists and orthodontists from the NHS cleft teams around the UK.
Members of The Cleft Collective and South West Cleft Unit teams.
After a fantastic pitch by Edinburgh surgeon Felicity Mehendale, congress attendees voted for the 14th International Congress in 2021 to be hosted in Edinburgh by the Craniofacial Society of Great Britain and Ireland. This is great news for the UK and will be an opportunity to demonstrate the fantastic services and research activities happening across Britain. You can find out more about this year’s congress at www.cleft2013.org
