General Information
The Department of Community Based Medicine conducts teaching and research in the areas of Primary Health Care, Psychiatry, Community Child & Adolescent Health, and Ethics in Medicine. Applications are invited from graduates with good Honours (2.1 or higher) or Masters degrees in relevant disciplines (epidemiology/ sociology/ psychology/ statistics/ economics/ neuroscience/ pharmacology/ clinical medicine applied to clinical/methodological issues in priority research areas). Applications should be made using the University’s application form for postgraduate study, CV, a letter indicating your topic of interest, and a research proposal of 500-1500 words. You are strongly encouraged to contact potential supervisor(s) to discuss your ideas.
The Department is eligible to apply for studentships of three or four years duration from a variety of sources. Studentships are normally advertised in December each year, and award is made by Department, Faculty or University selection panels as appropriate. Any prospective student, whether UK, EU, or overseas, who can provide evidence of funding is welcome to apply for postgraduate study in the Department at any time.

Developing the methodology of Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs)
(The MRC ConDuCT Trials Methodology Hub, Bristol)
The MRC ConDuCT Trials Methodology Hub brings together research into the commissioning, design, and conduct of RCTs, and is hosted by the University of Bristol Departments of Social Medicine and Community Based Medicine. Developing methods of statistical analysis forms a large part of the work of the hub, and we would like to hear from prospective students who are keen to study for a Ph.D. in this or one of our other areas of interest.
